Getting Around in Tanzania
Getting about and around Tanzania is safe and cheap. There are various modes of transports to suits all budgets and tastes. Remember to always think of safety and be street wise.

By Air
There are several airlines that offer flights to the major cities in Tanzania.
Flights from Dar es Salaam are connected to Arusha, Zanzibar, Mtwara, Mwanza, Mbeya, Kilimanjaro and most national parks.
Some airlines connect to South Africa, Kenya Uganda and Rwanda.
By Bus
There are plenty of buses in Tanzania. All cities are connected by large and small bus service providers.
Short distances are covered by Daladala’s and coaches travel long distances.
Cheap and can take a while, but you will get there.
By Rail
Tanzania does have a railway system. There are currently 2 lines in operation.
The Tanzania to Zambia service. A slow moving train, comfortable, cheap and nice sights.
The Central Line runs from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma ( Lake Tanganyika), Mwanza (Lake Victoria) and Taraza.
By Water
There are various ferry services operating in Tanzania. Connecting Mtwara, Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Pemba.
Daily ferries from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
There are also ferry services on Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika.
Car Hire
There are numerous car hire companies operating in Dar es Salaam, Arusha and most major towns.
Cars are available with or without a driver. An international driver’s license is required with insurance.
Taxis are available everywhere. In all towns and cities. Taxis from hotels are more expensive.
Always use an official taxi and negotiate rates before getting in. Try to find out the local rate and always negotiate.
Tanzania is served by modern hospitals and medical services. Pharmacies and medical serices are available throughout Dar es Salaam and major cities.
It is advisable to bring your own medication. Rural areas are served by local clinics. Please check for required vaccinations.
Don’t forget to take mosquito repellent, sunscreen, bite cream, sunglasses, binoculars and hats. (Medical insurance is must)
Climate & Weather
The climate of Tanzania is mainly tropical. Cool season is from June to September.
The rainy season is from October to December. The months between October and February being the hottest.
Rainy season on the coast is from November to December.
Telephone & Internet
Tanzania served by both landline and and mobile phone systems. There are many places to make international and locals calls.
Hotels and Internet cafes also offer phone services. There are numerous mobile providers that provide phone and internet services.
Companies such as Aitel, Zantel and Tigo work well depending on area and location. Raha provide Free wifi spots around the country.

Tanzania requires you to prepare carefully for your trip depending on where or what you will be doing.
